NSP-Scholarship is open for the year 2025-26

What Is NSP?

The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is India’s go-to digital hub, overseen by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology as part of the National e-Governance Plan. Since its launch in 2016, NSP has been all about making the scholarship process smoother—from application to processing, verification, and disbursement—covering everything from Class 1 to PhD. It cuts out the manual hassles and brings in transparency through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Why NSP Matters

Unified access: It provides a one-stop shop for various scholarship schemes from the central government, state governments, UGC, AICTE, and more.

Simplified application: With a one-time registration (OTR), you get a unique 14-digit ID that works across all scholarship categories.

Transparency & efficiency: NSP allows for real-time tracking and direct bank transfers, which helps to minimize delays and prevent leakage.

Inclusivity: It supports a wide range of applicants, including those from merit-based, means-based, and special categories (like SC/ST/OBC, minorities, disabled individuals, women, and single girl children).

Types of Scholarships Covered

● Pre-Matric (Class 1–10)

● Post-Matric (Class 11+, UG, PG)

● Higher Education/Professional/Technical Courses

Special Schemes:

● Minority scholarships

● Funds focused on disabilities

● Pre-matric and top-class support for SC/ST students

● Single girl child PG scholarships (Indira Gandhi)

● Support for the North-Eastern region (Ishan Uday)

● Occupation-based assistance (for beedi/cine/mine workers, paramilitary, police widows, railway personnel)

This wide array of programs comes from various central ministries (like Minority Affairs, Tribal Affairs, Social Justice, and HRE), UGC, AICTE, and participating state governments such as Karnataka, Bihar, Assam, and others.

Key Deadlines & Timelines

Application Period: Usually from mid-June to the end of October or November each year.

Verification Phases:

Defective application window: around mid-November (approximately November 15)

Institute and district/state level review: late November through the end of November.

Disbursement: This varies by scheme, but it often kicks off early the following year.

For details on specific schemes, be sure to check out the “All Scholarships” section on the portal—it's essential for keeping track of state-level timelines.

Step-by-Step: Applying on NSP

1. One-Time Registration (OTR)

Start by registering with your mobile number and Aadhaar OTP; complete the e-KYC process and mandatory face authentication using the NSP mobile app or UMANG at theoasisscholarship.in.

You’ll get an OTR ID, which is your permanent unique user code.

2. Institution Registration

Your school or college needs to be listed (using AISHE/DISE/NCVT codes). If it’s not, they’ll need to register.

3. Login & Apply

Log in with your OTR ID, select an eligible scholarship, fill out the application, upload the necessary documents, save your draft, and then hit Final Submit.

4. Track & Verify

Keep an eye on the verification process by the authorities: first at the institute level, then district, and finally ministry/state. You can check your dashboard anytime.

5. Fund Disbursement

Scholarship funds are transferred to your SBI/Bank account through DBT. You can check the payment status on your portal dashboard.

Documents You’ll Typically Need

1. - Aadhaar (or enrolment ID)

2. - Bank account passbook

3. - Income certificate

4. - Caste/domicile certificate (if applicable)

5. - Educational mark-sheets

6. - Bonafide/identity certificate from your institution

7. - Disability certificate (if applicable), etc.

(Note: For amounts under ₹50k, documents may be verified offline.)

Conclusion:

The NSP offers a powerful opportunity—major financial support and recognition once elusive due to fragmented systems. With centralized access, streamlined submissions, improved transparency, and timely disbursement, NSP empowers students to pursue their ambitions without financial constraints.

If you’re a student (or a parent/mentor helping one):

1. Register via OTR as soon as the portal opens (around mid‑June).

2. Prepare documents early—digital copies in PDF/JPEG under size limits.

3. Apply smartly—choose all scholarships you’re eligible for.

4. Follow through—track progress, address feedback, confirm disbursement
