      Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS) Exam:  A Passport to Karnataka's Administrative Services: The KAS Exam Overview The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) administers the prestigious state-level civil services exam known as the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) exam, or Gazetted Probationers Exam. It serves as the entry point for hiring into the Karnataka state government's numerous Group A and B administrative positions. The KAS exam presents a fantastic opportunity for candidates hoping to help the people of Karnataka and play a significant part in governance.


Overview of the Exam 

● Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) conducted the study.

● Exam Name: Probationers' Gazetted Examination Often referred to as the KAS

● Commonly Known As: KAS Exam

● Frequency: Usually once a year (based on KPSC notification)

● Mode of Exam: Offline (pen and paper based)

● Languages: English and Kannada

● Job Roles: Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Tahsildar, and other administrative posts

 

Eligibility Criteria for Exam

1.Nationality: Candidate must be an Indian       citizen

2.Age Limit

● General: 21 to 35 years

● OBC: Up to 38 years

● SC/ST/Category I: Up to 40 years

3.Educational Qualification:

● A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any discipline is required.

 

Exam Pattern

The KAS exam is conducted in three stages:

1. Preliminary Examination

     Objective type (MCQs)

      Two papers:

          ● General Studies Paper I

    ● General Studies Paper II (CSAT)

 

2. Mains Examination

    Descriptive type:-

     7 papers in total, including:

      ● 2 Compulsory Kannada and English papers (Qualifying only)

● 5 General Studies and Optional Subject papers

 

Marks of main exam + interview are counted for the final list

 

3. Personality Test / Interview

    Conducted for candidates who clear the mains

    Assesses personality, leadership, judgment, and awareness

 

Syllabus Highlights

1.General Studies (Indian Polity, History, Geography, Economy, Current Affairs)

2.Karnataka-specific topics (State policies, Culture, Governance)

3.Optional Subjects: Candidates can choose from a list (History, Sociology, Public Administration, etc.)

4.Language Proficiency: Focus on Kannada and English
